Qi  Luo 

 

Luo Qi is a leading figure in contemporary Chinese art — an artist, theorist, and cultural ambassador whose work transcends borders. Born in Hangzhou, he served more than three decades as Professor at the China Academy of Art(1986–2016), shaping generations of artists and thinkers. Today, he lives and creates between China, Italy, and Portugal, embodying a truly international artistic presence.

As the founder of Calligraphyism (书法主义), Luo Qi pioneered a groundbreaking fusion of calligraphy, visual art, and philosophy, giving traditional ink new life on the global stage. His art speaks a universal language — of belonging, togetherness, and the silence that shapes identity — bridging cultures from East to West.

Exhibitions & Global Recognition

Luo Qi’s exhibitions have spanned the world’s most prestigious platforms: the Venice Biennale, Paris Fashion Week at the Louvre, Alisan Fine Arts Hong Kong, the National Art Gallery of Luxembourg, and major institutions across the USA, Europe, and Asia. Retrospectives in Milan, Bologna, Hangzhou, Korea, and France have cemented his role as a central figure of modern ink art and cross-cultural dialogue.

Publications & Thought Leadership

A prolific author, Luo Qi has published more than 40 books, including the monumental 14-volume “Calligraphyism” series, recipient of China’s highest honors — the National Publishing Fund and the Golden Bull Prize. His artist book “It’s Me: Poems Without Words” was celebrated as one of the “Most Beautiful Books in China” and presented at the Leipzig Book Fair. His works are collected by leading libraries and cultural institutions across Europe and Asia.

International acclaim has followed his career: the Medici Silver Award at the Florence Biennale, the BITOLA Awardfor European development of contemporary art, the International Art Contribution Award in Thailand, and even recognition on the NASDAQ Big Screen in New York.

As the founder and artistic director of the AAmA (Asian, African, Mediterranean & Americas) International Art Exhibition, Luo Qi has curated ambitious projects across China, Europe, and beyond, bringing together hundreds of artists and academics to foster global dialogue. His initiatives in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and other cultural capitals have transformed prestigious venues into platforms for international exchange.
